How to Spot a Good Realtor

Buying or selling a home can be an intimidating process. Having a good real estate agent by your side is crucial to ensure the transaction goes as smoothly as possible. Here are a few tips to help you spot a good realtor:

  • Experience - Look for an agent with several years of experience in your local real estate market. The more experience they have, the more likely they are to negotiate the best deal and avoid common pitfalls.

  • Track record - Check the agent's track record of success. How many homes have they helped clients buy or sell in the last year? How quickly did those homes sell? Do they have a history of satisfied clients? Reading online reviews can help get a sense of their reputation and results.

  • Specialization - Some agents specialize in specific types of properties or clients. For example, if you're looking to buy a luxury home or sell a rural farm property, find an agent with experience in those niche markets. They will have more relevant connections and experience to draw from.

  • Responsiveness - A good realtor will respond to your calls or emails promptly. They should be readily available to answer questions and address any concerns you may have. If an agent is unresponsive during the initial consultation process, they likely won't be very responsive once you've signed a contract with them.

  • Marketing skills - Selling a home requires effective marketing to attract potential buyers. Ask the agent about their marketing strategy and what they will do to promote your listing to prospective buyers. The more extensive and proactive their marketing approach, the better.
